Polypropylene Random Copolymer is a type of thermoplastic resin produced by the copolymerization of propylene with small amounts of ethylene (typically 1% to 7%) distributed randomly along the polymer chain.
Unlike standard polypropylene, this "random" distribution disrupts the crystalline structure of the polymer, resulting in distinct physical advantages:
Superior Clarity: PPR is much more transparent than its homopolymer counterpart, making it ideal for clear food containers and medical packaging.
High Impact Resistance: The addition of ethylene makes the material less brittle, especially at lower temperatures.
Chemical & Heat Resistance: It maintains excellent resistance to many chemical solvents, bases, and acids, and can withstand high temperatures, which is why it is the "gold standard" for hot and cold water plumbing systems.
Flexibility: It offers a better balance of stiffness and flexibility, allowing for "living hinges" that can bend repeatedly without breaking.
